Strategy Refresh and Restart

Reboot Your Stuck Strategy: 6 Weeks to Rebuild Clarity and Momentum

You worked hard to build a good strategy and plan, and your team started off well. But it’s a year later. Why isn’t there more progress? Why are some strategic initiatives stuck, and how do you unstick them? How often are you reevaluating the plan to see if some parts of the strategy are no longer relevant—or at least no longer priorities?

Or you’re new to your role, and you want to adjust the strategy to better reflect your priorities for your organization. Or you’re new to your role and want an opportunity to assess where to take your new organization before digging in.

These are all common reasons for refreshing strategy: course correct as necessary, reconfirm ownership, and rebuild momentum. Our goal is to make this fast, focused, and fundable so you can do this annually. This does not replace strategic planning, and does assume you have a solid existing strategic plan which only requires updating.

We offer two versions of this service:

  1. Build capability: we facilitate a start-to-finish annual refresh, and teach your team how to use our tools so you can run this annually on your own. If you have staff who have the mandate and availability to build internal capability, it’s the perfect option.

  2. Run it for you: we do all of the heavy lifting, and require staff time only for the team refresh sessions. This is commonly paired with our Strategy Help Desk services, to handle implementation questions through the subsequent months.

What’s Included:

  • External Scan: A listening light touch with your stakeholders, including your community or customers, your funders, and your key partners.

  • Environment Scan: A review of changes in the key areas of your external environment (e.g., grants, technology shifts, peer innovation, policy / regulatory requirements).

  • Plan Relevance: An assessment of strategic goals and initiatives to determine if they are still the right priorities, are scoped correctly, and have adequate funding.

  • Performance To-Date: An executional examination of strategic initiatives and KPIs for health, ownership, leadership, obstacles, and reporting.

  • Capability & Alignment: A listening light touch with staff to understand strategy engagement, alignment, sense of belonging, and availability of required executional capability.

  • Refresh Session: A session (sometimes two) which reviews all of what we’ve learned (above) and updates the strategic plan for a new year of success.
